What do you think the life span of a pillow is? Well, we hardly give much thought to this, but ideally, it is around two years.
With constant use, our pillows tend to accumulate many not-so-pleasant things, like skin oils, saliva, dead cells, dust and even mites. And since they are so close to our face, it’s very important to wash them regularly and replace them when it’s time.
But instead of discarding them once their days on the bed are over, you can put them to many creative uses. Let’s explore a few of them here.
1. Add Stuffing Into Old Toys

If your kids or pets have stuffed toys that have been ripped apart and need some stuffing, use the filling from your old pillows, put them inside the toys and sew them back into shape, looking good as new!
2. Make Cleaning Rags

Remove the filling from an old pillow and use the fabric to make small square rags and use them for cleaning around the house.
3. Stuff Other Pillows

If you have a pillow in a reasonably good condition, but that could use a bit more stuffing, use the filling from an old pillow that you’re ready to discard. This way, you’ll be able to put both the pillows to use.
4. Double-Up

You can extend the life of your pillows that have gone all flat and thin. Just stuff two of them together in a single pillowcase and you’re good to go for another few months!
5. Give Them Away

If you’re getting yourself new pillows and your old ones are still in good enough shape, don’t just toss them. Think of donating them to an orphanage or an animal shelter. But be sure to wash them before you give them away.
6. Use Them As Packaging

Shipping a fragile item that you’re afraid might get damaged in transit? Keep the stuffing from your old pillows for these occasions. You could even decide to use the whole pillow if the package is big enough.
7. Make Large Floor Cushions

Turn your old pillows into large floor cushions and scatter them around, on your kids’ room or the living room floor. They make perfect additions for gathering around a board game, lazy movie nights or other casual entertaining that you decide to do.
8. Make A Bed For Your Pet

Happens all the time! Get them the fanciest of beds, and our pets go and make themselves comfortable on the pile of dirty laundry that you just took out.
Well, try this! Use stuffing from your old pillows and make a bed for Fido. Not only does it put your old pillow to good use, the bed will carry your smell and give your pet a good reason to feel comfortable enough to sleep on it!
9. Make Throw Pillows

Cut your old pillow in half and seal the ends up, and you have yourself two, new throw-pillows. Just find colorful pillowcases for them and add a dash of color to your living room couch!
