Upcycling furniture has taken the world by storm, what with the extra time all of us have on our hands, thanks to the pandemic.
Redecorating the home is always exciting. But, let’s face it, upcycling can give you a bigger bang for your buck. Not only is the process of recycling good for the environment, but it also allows us to add a unique vibe to our decor, without having to spend too much.
There is a lot of fun to be had if you’ve chosen to take the upcycling route. Let’s explore a few of our favorites.
1. Old tires in the living room. You heard us right!
This idea takes upcycling to an uber-cool level. And for this, any old tire will do, as long as it is in good condition. All that is needed is a coat of black paint and a glass top, and voila! You have just created the most amazing table imaginable.
And, what’s to stop us from going psychedelic with yellows and lime greens? Or a play of two tires, of different sizes next to each other? And while we are at it, maybe paint them in different colors too for that extra oomph?
2. Upcycle the cycle!
Old cycles make the best and the coolest planters. Whether you place yours against the balcony railing, or string it up, hugging the wall, is entirely up to you. To give your quirky, new planter a touch of color, all you need is a can of spray paint in your favorite color. The plants will take care of the rest, as you can see in the image above!
3. A medley of ideas
Friday nights just turned a lot more fun! Have a few old crates lying around? Old fruit crates can be very, very versatile. You can stack them up and use them to house books or to display curios out of, or create a stunning coffee table (If you aren’t handy with tools, you could seek help from your local carpenter!). Just add a few colorful poufs around it, and you have yourself a candid conversation nook. Not to mention, a conversation starter!
4. Old into new
It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can achieve. Whether it’s the pastels that have your heart or the fiery reds.
Painting chairs in different colors can really amp up the design quotient of your dining space. If there are some stencils handy, a motif on the top can add that extra zing! Have cabinets and tables that have seen better days? Go ahead, give them some decor love and paint them into stunning new pieces.
5. Ladders have much to offer
I think you will agree, old ladders have an unbeatable charm! They can make a perfect easel to showcase artwork. And we can’t deny their beauty when creepers frolic on the rungs. We can use them almost anywhere – on the balcony for a green nook, or to display the pottery collection off of. Don’t we just love them?
6. Repurposing, a whole new meaning!
Old drums or barrels can make for swanky tables with just a piece of wood nailed to the top and a coat of paint. And they can give your home a totally pub-like vibe!
7. Chairs-not just for sitting on!
Who needs a planter when we have such exotic plant holders? The best part is the creepers will do a better job at decorating than we ever could. These chairs could fit into any decor, and become the conversation piece at a gathering, effortlessly!
There are zillions of ways you can upcycle old stuff and turn it into cool new things. We bet there are many ideas floating around out there. Please feel free to share them with us!
