Full Circle: Embracing Curved Elements for a Balanced Home

Last updated on April 30th, 2025

We recently came across a place where instantly we just felt good energy. It was like this place wrapped us in a big hug the moment we stepped in. Have you ever felt this way when you have walked into a space? We realised, that this feeling of warmth didn’t come from sharp corners and rigid lines – it came from a softer, more inviting space, and when we looked around we noticed that it was a hint of circular mirrors, a pendant light, a circular rug on the floor that made this place more inviting and pleasant.

Once we started noticing them – we saw the space nicely hosted circular mirrors at the entrance, a nice next of circular coffee tables, modern wall art which was filled with circular patterns and warm colours. That is when we realised that circles do a lot more for our homes and calms our minds, they do a lot more than what we give them credit form. Now let’s talk about how the simple circles can help you create a truly soft looking space and a cozy home.

Circles can make your space feel natural. Look around in nature – the sun, the moon, the ripples in water, tree rings, some of the flowers, even our irises are all circular, nature loves a circle and is one big circle in itself. This is probably why our brains feel more at ease around curved shapes when compared to sharp lines and edges. For that matter, psychological and design studies indicate that human beings tend to associate circular shapes with safety, comfort and peace.

Looking to get your interiors done?

How can we bring in circular elements into our homes, how do we make our homes inviting the same sense of calm and organic beauty indoors? Here are a few things that can break the monotony of square tables, rectangular furniture etc. Add a nice round woven basket on to the dining table, a circular jute rug under the rectangular centre table, a nice curved high back chair in your reading corner. These are subtle but do wonders to your home in terms of making it more inviting and a friendly space.

Interiors in need of an upgrade?

Circles add a balance to harsh lines – most of our homes are built with right angles – walls, ceilings, doors, windows and floors. That creates a lot of harsh lines and boxy energy. Circles, therefore are known as peacekeepers of design, they soften the sharp edges and bring a balance.

Visualize a living room with a square coffee table, tall rectangular bookshelf, a square sofa. To this add a round mirror above the sofa or an overhead circular pendant light. There you have created a circle of style for yourself.

Circles create a flow, since there’s no starting or ending point, so naturally they guide your eyes around the room. This is what makes circles an ideal choice for spaces where you want a sense of openness and a flow. A round table encourages a more natural conversation and eye contact as this makes people feel more included and equal– it brings people together literally and energetically. This is why you will find round tables in boardrooms, therapy sessions as it doesn’t create or distinguish a leader from followers or teams – it’s just a shared space.

In a long hallway even a round wall sconce can create a rhythm that makes the space feel more connected. At your home, a round table can translate to togetherness. A round dining table, a circular ottoman in the living room where people gather around, or a quiet circular reading corner create intimate spots that invite conversations and connections.

Need to refresh your interiors?

How about creating a home that has a personality? Isn’t that what we all want? A home that reflects who we are – calm, balanced, warm, welcoming and a place that’s also a little bit fun. So how do we start?

You don’t need to overhaul your entire home start with small things like some options mentioned here:

-If you have a rectangular mirror, replace that with a round one

-Add a round tray on your dining / coffee table

-Add some circular cushions on the couch

-Add a large circular wall clock in the kitchen / dining area

-Pick a round bedside table instead of a square or a rectangular boxy table

These subtle touches will make your space feel softer, more welcoming and well-rounded and complete. Now go ahead and embrace the curves gracefully!
