You start with three plastic bags. Then somehow, without anyone noticing, they multiply into 47 and take over an entire kitchen cabinet.
If you reuse plastic bags for garbage, shopping, or household jobs, keeping a small supply makes sense. The problem isn’t the bags. It’s the giant, unruly bag-of-bags they’ve become. A few simple storage tricks can bring the collection under control.
1. Turn An Old Wipe Container Into A Dispenser
Pull, use, repeat!
Before tossing an empty wipes container, clean it thoroughly and give it a new job. Its dispensing opening makes it surprisingly handy for storing lightweight plastic bags.
Fold or roll the bags neatly inside rather than stuffing them in. Then simply pull one out whenever you need it.

2. Give That Tissue Box A Second Life
Empty box? Instant organizer!
An old tissue box is another ridiculously easy solution. Push clean, dry bags through the opening and keep the box inside a cabinet, pantry, or utility area.
It’s not fancy, but it contains the chaos, costs nothing, and makes individual bags much easier to grab.
3. Roll Them Instead Of Scrunching Them
Tiny rolls beat giant plastic clouds!
Scrunching bags into balls may be quick, but those balls take up a surprising amount of room.
Flatten each bag, remove trapped air, fold it lengthwise, and roll it into a compact bundle. Arrange the rolls inside a small bin or canister and suddenly your enormous bag collection occupies a fraction of the space.

4. Try A Fabric Or Mesh Holder
Stuff them in, pull them out!
Those long fabric bag holders with openings at the top and bottom are simple for a reason. Add bags at one end and pull them out from the other when needed.
A mesh version lets you see how full the holder is, which is useful if your collection has a tendency to get slightly out of hand.
5. Put A Dispenser On The Wall
Save the cabinet for something better!
If drawer and cabinet space is precious, move your bag storage vertically.
A wall-mounted dispenser can fit inside a pantry, utility room, or on the inside of a suitable cabinet door. Just position it somewhere convenient without interfering with hinges, shelves, or anything stored inside.

6. Sort Bags By What You Actually Use Them For
Not every bag needs to join the same pile!
Keep reusable shopping bags together near the door, while smaller plastic bags used for household jobs can live in a compact dispenser in the kitchen or utility area.
This also makes it much easier to see what you’re accumulating. If one container is overflowing, you probably have more bags than you’re realistically going to reuse.
7. Set A Limit And Recycle The Rest
Your organizer is the boundary!
This may be the most useful trick of all. Choose one container for your plastic bags and decide that when it’s full, you’re done collecting.
Reuse what you reasonably can, then check whether clean, eligible plastic bags can be returned through a local store collection or recycling program. Don’t automatically put flexible plastic into your household recycling bin, as local recycling rules vary.
The Real Bag Trick
You don’t need an elaborate organizing system to stop plastic bags from taking over. A repurposed tissue box, wipes container, compact dispenser, or fabric holder can be enough, especially when you give your collection a firm size limit.
