5 Things You Touch That Are Dirtier Than A Toilet

Last updated on July 5th, 2021

So, you think sanitizing your hands and following good hand hygiene is enough to keep yourself and your family safe?
Little do we realize that we are surrounded by virus and bacteria-laden things that we touch and use every day. And since we don’t realize they’re dirty, we don’t clean them enough. And the result? Things that end up getting dirtier than a toilet (which, by the way, gets a rigorous cleaning often!)

Read on to learn which innocent-looking things they are. And keep that pack of disinfectant wipes handy!

1. Your Handbag

Your handbag often ends up resting on the floors of restaurants, classrooms, and stores. And you can imagine what those floors go through, constantly. That’s only the bottom of your bag. Now consider its handles, which would be carrying germs from every surface that your hands have had the pleasure of touching. After a long day, guess where that bag goes? On your kitchen counter, dining table or even your bed.
Wipe your bag clean every so often with a disinfectant wipe. And avoid setting it down in random places. If you’re wondering where you can find disinfectant wipes, they are easily available online, like everything else today.

2. Your Reusable Grocery Bags

Great on the environment, reusable grocery bags can become home to hordes of germs from all the unwashed fruits, veggies, and other not-so-clean packages that go inside them. And since we think nothing about folding them away once we finish emptying the bags, these germs simply multiply and grow. Even more so, if we stash them in the hot trunks of our cars. And the next shopping trip, all of them are good to be transferred onto the new occupants of the bag and our hands. And so, the cycle continues.
These bags need to be washed often, if not after every use. Think of the environment, yes. But also think of your own health.

3. Your Cellphone

Even if you are one of those few people who don’t take your cellphone into the toilet, it is still covered with bacteria from every surface it sits on, and everything that your hands come in contact with before you handle your phone. Disinfect it every day!

4. Your Keyboard

We all touch our laptops or computer keyboards often. And no one washes their hands before all the times they come back to their computer and touch the keyboard. Guess how many germs land there with every use? And often, others use our computer too. More germs. Not just living there, but multiplying like crazy.
And let us ask you this. How often do you use your computer and quickly grab a bite of something without a single thought about washing your hands first?
Wipe your keyboard daily with a disinfectant wipe. And more number of times if anyone near you has a cold or flu.

5. Your Bathroom Doorknob

Not everyone has the same idea of personal hygiene. Not even in the same family. You can’t be sure then, if everyone in your family washes their hands religiously, every time they use the bathroom or sneeze.
So, the innocuous-looking doorknob that you are handling could be teeming with bacteria and viruses. Do yourself a favor, give it a quick wipe-down with a disinfectant wipe, every day. And while you’re at it, wipe all the other knobs as well. (Not with the same wipe, of course!)
