It isn’t enough to get an expensive couch for your living room. You will also need to take good care of it, to ensure it keeps enhancing the décor of your living room year after year while providing utmost comfort to your friends and family, every day!
If cleaning your couch hasn’t been on your to-do list for a while, here’s a little bit of a push for you to get started!
1. Read the care and cleaning instructions
Each sofa comes with guidelines specifying a cleaning code, that let the customer understand what type of cleaning is necessary for the couch. Always read the care instructions before cleaning your sofa and try not to experiment.
2. Get vacuuming
For starters, vacuum your couch at least once a month, or more frequently if your couch also doubles up as a pet bed. Turn over the cushions and vacuum underneath as well. This way, you will be able to remove pet hair, food particles, and dust bunnies that could be trapped under them.
3. Bring out the dishwashing liquid
No matter how careful you are, spills are bound to happen! Spot clean the stains with some dish soap on a piece of damp cloth. However, ensure you do it immediately after the spill, for good results.
4. Sprinkle baking soda
For food odors or any other intense smell on your couch, first, clean the spot with a brush, then sprinkle some baking soda on it. Let it sit for an hour or so before vacuuming it up.
5. Steam-clean it!
Another way to clean up your couch is to steam clean it! The vapor produced by a steam cleaner freshens up the couch without using any chemicals. Also, the high-temperature steam disintegrates surface dirt, brightening up the colors of the fabric.
6. And if you have a leather sofa…
To clean a leather sofa: Vacuum the couch and spray a mild solution of vinegar and water on the surface and quickly wipe it out with a dry microfiber cloth.
Here’s to sparklingly clean couches! Happy cleaning, everyone!
