So, you’re just back after a hectic day at work. The laundry basket is overflowing, the entryway is kinda messy with shoes scattered here and there, and your living room has definitely seen better days. You somehow drag yourself to the couch, when suddenly you get a call from a friend saying that she’s dropping by in a half hour. What do you do? Panic! We all have those friends and relatives who barely give us any notice when they plan to make an unexpected visit! But there’s no reason to get an anxiety attack, as in today’s blog we will help you keep some last-minute-cleaning tricks up your sleeve to tackle such situations.
The Entryway
This is an area of your home that your visitors will see first. So make it a point to clean up the area and remove any stray shoes that might be messing up your entryway. Also, don’t forget to clean up the floor quickly.
Smells
Let’s admit it. We all experience a certain “nose blindness” with regard to the smell of our own home. In any case, our guests aren’t used to the smell of our home, so if it smells funky or not fresh, they’ll be the first to take note of it. There are a lot of ways to make your home smell fresh, quickly! Use a reed diffuser, with a fresh smelling essential oil like lemongrass. If you don’t have a diffuser at hand, think of using an air freshener spray for a quick result.
Clutter
You sure don’t want your guests to see the clutter in your house (neither do your guests want to see it!). So, ensure that you get rid of it. One of the easiest ways to clean up the mess before your visitors arrive is to just hide it away in a place they can’t see. But, don’t make it a habit to hide away all clutter – that is how one winds up with an overflowing junk drawer!
The Bathroom
If your guests are sure to visit one room of the house, it is the bathroom. So, make sure you clean it up before your guests arrive. It doesn’t take long to make the bathroom look clean, quickly. Clean off the countertop, the toilet, and the sink. Put away any garments and replace dirty towels with clean ones.
Pet hair
Having a pet at home means finding pet hair in almost all the furniture in the house. So, before your guests arrive, remove all the hair using a lint roller. You can also use a rubber glove to do this. Also, your guests might not feel comfortable with your pet being around. You may want to keep them in a separate room till the time your guests leave.
