The month of January is a great time to get your home in shape and make new plans for the year ahead. So, give your home some winter love with these 7 household chores.
1. Amp-up the warmth
Winter may be cold and gloomy, but that doesn’t mean your home needs to reflect that! Get rid of the post-holiday blues by amping-up the decor of your home. Think of adding cozy accents like faux fur rugs, throw pillows, pendant lights, or even fresh blooms to keep the spirits up.
2. Banish clutter
New year is an excellent time to declutter your home. So, grab a cardboard box and dump things that you no longer use. Once done, donate the usable items to an NGO, and trash the rest of them.
3. Purge your kitchen and pantry
If your new year resolution is to stay fit and eat healthy, then there’s no better place to start than the kitchen. Purge your pantry and refrigerator and toss out items that have expired and give all the shelves a good wipe-down before placing things back.
4. Freshen up your kids’ room
Since the holidays are over, and the midwinter blues have set in, it sure would be nice to add some cheer to your kids’ room! Consider adding a chalkboard feature wall, a tepee or fairy lights to spruce up the room.
5. Plan home projects for the year ahead
Since the new year is already here, it is time to take a good look at your house and identify things that need to be repaired, changed, or renovated. Maybe the kitchen needs an overhaul, or the bathroom needs a new tub – planning ahead will give you the time to prepare for the big-ticket projects.
6. Organize winter accessories
Winter essentials like socks, mittens, scarves, and caps tend to go missing at home. So, organize your drawers, baskets, and all places where these items tend to hide. Also, keep an eye out for orphan socks and get rid of them before they mount to a pile.
7. Make a list of resolutions
What’s a new year without any resolutions? This month, take out time from your schedule to spend some quality time alone. Make a note of all the things that you want to achieve or do this year, and start working towards ticking them off.
8. Sort out your paper and digital documents
It’s one of those tasks that we all dread – organizing paper and digital documents! So, fix yourself a cup of tea and get started with organizing and discarding. Also, don’t forget to declutter your computer and get rid of any digital clutter!
