Out of all the furniture in your house, the sofa is most likely to be one of your most-expensive products. And, since you have spent a fortune on it, you would want for it to last for a long time, right? But did you know, that there are things that you do which are probably ruining your sofa?
In today’s blog, we will be discussing the 7 things that you might be unintentionally doing that may be ruining your sofa.
1. You Sit In The Same Spot Every Time
Let’s be honest, we humans are creatures of habit! So, it’s not surprising that we have a tendency to sit on a specific spot on the sofa. However, sitting in the same spot on the sofa every time may ruin the fabric and the springs underneath, making your couch worn out on one side while looking relatively new on the other. Instead, use both sides of the sofa to make it look uniform. Using both sides of the couch will prevent your sofa from premature wearing.
2. You Forget To Vacuum Your Sofa
Do you vacuum your couch? It’s a great habit to start with in order to keep your couch new, for a long time! Vacuuming up dirt, and other debris can help shield it from getting worn out, keeping it cleaner. To begin with the cleaning process, start by removing the cushions and vacuuming underneath them and around the casing of the sofa. Next, make use of the upholstery brush and vacuum the pillows as well.
3. You Sleep On It
The sofa is meant for sitting, not sleeping! So, if you have the habit of lying down on your couch, it is time you put an end to it. Sleeping on your couch for a long time will destroy the cushions of the sofa. A short snooze is fine, however, if you’re settling in for over 8 hours, it is better to retire on the bed.
4. You Never Clean It
Even if your couch doesn’t look dirty, chances are that there will still be a wide range of things prowling on your couch’s upholstery. Since you sit on it so frequently, it’s essential to keep it clean! Set aside some time to give it an intensive cleaning once a year.
5. You Never Rotate The Cushions
Another way to increase the life of your couch is to turn the cushions routinely. Flip them over so the opposite side faces up, and swap their positions if possible. This way, you will be able to forestall uneven wear.
6. You Put It In A Sunny Spot
Daylight can lighten certain kinds of fabrics, so it’s essential to place it in a place that doesn’t get a ton of direct sunlight. Keep it in a shaded area of the room, or ensure your blinds are shut during the day.
7. You Give Stains A Chance to Set
Spills are meant to happen. So, in case something spills on your couch it’s always better to clean it immediately. If you let the stains to set in the fabric, then chances are they may turn out to be difficult or even impossible to clean.
