You have probably been hearing a lot about essential oils and their benefits. A quick search on the internet will give you access to several recipes using essential oil as one of the key ingredients. And why not? After all, they smell great and contain exceptional antibacterial properties that help keep things clean and fresh for a long time. In today’s blog, let’s look at 6 unexpected uses of essential oils in your home.
1. Clean your carpets naturally
To make a natural carpet cleaner and deodorizer, you will need 1 part of baking soda, 5-6 drops of an essential oil, (preferably orange or lavender), and a shaker. Blend the baking soda and oil well, and pour it into the shaker. Once mixed well, sprinkle the powder on the carpet or rug and let it sit for 15 minutes. The baking soda will kill the foul smell and the essential oil will help freshen up the carpet. Finally, vacuum the carpet to remove the baking soda residue.
2. Stir up a homemade fabric freshener
Why use a store-bought fabric freshener, when you can make one using some readily-available kitchen ingredients? To make a homemade fabric freshener you will require 1 tbsp of baking soda, 2 cups of water, and a few drops of lemon essential oil. First, mix the baking soda and essential oil in a small bowl with the help of a spoon. Now, pour this mixture into a spray bottle and add water. Shake it gently before using it.
3. Create your own mold killer
Tea tree oil is very effective in killing mold that is growing in those tiny cracks between the tiles and around the bathtub, in your bathroom. All you need to do is mix 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle and spritz it in the affected areas and let it dry. Do not wipe it off. This will do the task for you!
4. Make an all-purpose spray
Instead of purchasing commercial cleaning sprays, try making this all-natural spray to keep bacteria at bay. Simply mix vinegar, water, and 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil into a spray bottle and use it to clean all the hard surfaces in the house.
5. Deodorize toilet rolls
This is super simple! All you need to do is add few drops of your favorite essential oil on the toilet paper roll before putting it back on the holder. Now, every time you use the toilet roll, it will release a fresh aroma into the air.
6. Create sleep-inducing bed sheets
If you have trouble sleeping, then this essential oil hack is for you. Blend 10 drops of lavender oil with some distilled water and pour this mixture into a spray bottle. Spritz this blend on your pillowcase and sheets around 30 minutes before going to bed. This allows the mist time to evaporate so that your sheets aren’t damp. The soothing smell of lavender will help you calm down, ensuring a peaceful night’s rest.
