Well, hello there, décor buffs! As promised, here we are with the third installment of design secrets our experts have been insisting everyone needs to know before they turn 30. If you’ve missed the last two reads, you can find the first installment here, and the second one here.
Read on to know the next 5 décor mistakes we want you to avoid making!
11. Don’t chase after ‘perfect’. Sometimes ‘done’ is more important.

When you’re decorating a new home or looking to refresh existing décor, hyper-focusing on every single detail isn’t a good idea. And although there are countless decisions to be made, they don’t need to be made urgently or all at the same time.
Remember that it’s important to step back and give yourself a pat on the back for what you’ve accomplished. Work on getting the bones done, and pace the work on décor and accents. And as every home décor buff would know, in the décor world, there’s no such thing as ‘perfect’. So why chase after the idea?
12. Remember that space is a luxury item

Trying to fill up every bit of free space with a decorative item ends up giving a space a cluttered look and is also far from practical. Leave spaces open to be able to add décor elements at a later time, or leave room to set down that glass of wine you’ve been holding and have nowhere to put as you decide to put your feet up!
13. Make your bed first thing in the morning

Imagine the feeling of coming back home after a long tiring day and finding a neatly made bed to sink into. Priceless, isn’t it?
Making your bed first thing in the morning doesn’t just make sure you aren’t greeted by a mess of pillows and sheets at the fag-end of your day, but it also forms the perfect way to start a productive day.
14. Don’t break your bank on decor

Invest in furniture pieces. Those are big-ticket items that demand good quality. They need substantial investment as they’ll decide your day-to-day experience and comfort. Get creative about accessories and other décor items, which don’t need a long-term commitment. Hunt for unique finds at discount stores. Look hard enough and you can find the most wow-worthy décor elements, in places you least expect!
After all, good design isn’t about investing in and putting the most expensive things on display. It’s about spending on the right things and bringing them together beautifully.
15. In the décor world, less is more!

We are all different and are bound to have different décor choices, but when you go about decorating your home, it’s important to remember that every wall doesn’t need artwork, and it isn’t a great idea to have bold colors everywhere. Make ‘less is more’ your design mantra. This doesn’t mean you need to be a minimalist. It only means that while you choose things that bring you joy and comfort, you keep in mind a certain theme with the right mix of colors and textures that are complementary and stay in harmony.
Happy decorating!
